Welcome to the new Coffeehouse Chronicles!

I know you’ve all been patiently waiting for us to start our blog (some of you, who I won’t name, not so much. Bob Esson.). It has been a crazy week in prep for today. Everyone involved in our little caravan has been scrambling trying to get last-minute projects packed up or stable enough to be left alone for a few weeks, the HB and I included. She was literally up all last night trying to get the house ready for a little remodel that we’re glad to be participating in, in absentia.

First day on the road, and already the fun has begun. Full disclosure, my co-pilot was of no use whatsoever. Her all-nighter resulted in her lasting for about 15 minutes into the drive. When she woke up, she was surprised to see a familiar-looking motorhome rolling along in front of us.

“Hey! Isn’t that the Professor & Mrs. Professor in front of us?”

“Umm, yes, dear. If you look closer, you’ll see that McCorrector (the former McCroc) is directly in front of him and the Doctor and Mrs. Doctor are behind us, and behind them are Mr. & Mrs. Centurion.”

“Whaa??? When did all this happen?”

“While you were sleeping.” Who remembers that movie? “Most of the crew hooked up at the Kohl’s parking lot, and The Centurions jumped into the conga line as we breezed through Victorville.

“WOW! You’re efficient.”

I smiled at her, “I've been telling you that for more than 35 years, Hon.” She was nonplussed.

There was actually a sendoff for us at the Kohl’s parking lot. Mrs. Doctor‘s sister couldn’t bear us leaving without her sending us off. She jumped outta bed and met us, hugging each of us tenderly and tearfully and then offering a couple of pats for the top of Mrs. Doctor’s head. They must not be that close. I was surprised to learn that they made adult-sized footie PJs in a Tinkerbell print. Very fashionable.

Some may remember what we have affectionately dubbed the “Yosemite Incident,” where the Professor gave the HB and Mrs. Doctor a start when he made a last-minute decision on the freeway to join us on the rest of our trip instead of a tour of South Fresno. Well, I guess he decided to reprise his role for the McCorrectors because they weren’t there for the “Yosemite Incident.” And as a special added bonus, he did it twice, just in case they missed the first one. “I was looking for my phone.”

Professor, would you do us a solid? Maybe ask Mrs. Professor to hand you your phone instead of getting up from your seat at 60 MPH and looking for it yourself. The button says “CRUISE CONTROL,” not “AUTOPILOT.”

It’s an old-school Lennox reunion! Joining us for the first couple of weeks is New Guy and his beautiful wife, Mrs. New Guy. The New Guy was a ball of fire back in the day, when we were in patrol. But I’m gonna guess that old age has caught up with him. We’re constantly waiting for him because he’s always washing his hands! I can’t decide if he’s Howie Mandel or a clean freak.

“C’mon! Let’s go! It’s only a little diesel fuel! Put on some rubber gloves, for Pete’s sake!”

Mr & Mrs. Centurion are trying to keep a low profile because they think it’s gonna keep them outta the Chronicles, but don’t you worry your pretty little head, Mr. Centurion, I’m gonna bring the smoke!

McCorrector is just sitting back laughing. He’s glad that it’s not all about him—this time.

One band, one sound. Drink ‘em if you got ‘em!
