How ya doin’, Chroniclers?
Are you good? I don't know if you heard, but the Original Goodie’s Uniforms is shutting down. I’ve been going to Goodie since I was an Explorer, and they were in Artesia—more than forty-five years!! Goodie and Jim seem like family, and I will certainly miss them.
I had to go by and check in on them.
I slid in, and there was Goodie, in her usual spot, behind the counter. She smiled and said, “Well, hello there, stranger.”
“Hiya, Goods! How’ve ya been?”
She came out from around the counter and gave me a warm hug. “Good. Good.” She said, “You know, Tony Ward came by a few weeks ago. He’s easy on the eyes, but you know, you’re our favorite.”
“Aww, shucks. Thanks, Goodie.”
We small-talked it for a bit, she talked about her, and I talked about me. She asked about the HB and how McCroc and his rubber shoe collection were coming along. We smiled politely at one another, and I looked around, and noticed that it was quieter than normal. There wasn’t the usual Gangster Rap blaring from the computer on Jim's desk.
“Hey, where’s Jim?”
“Oh, he’s in the back. Let’s go see him.”
We walked through to the back, where we found Jim wearing a pair of purple Beats by Dre headphones, practicing the Pop the Fan dance. After we got his attention when he did the step turn to the right, he pulled down his headphones and smiled at me.
“Hey there! It’s so good to see you. Tony Ward was here a week ago, but we’re much happier when we get to see you,” Jim said.
“What have you been up to? How’s McCroc doing? Did he see the new Crocs with the Padres logo on them? How’s the HB?”
“Uh, Jim?” I needed a little rewind, “…were you just doing the Pop the Fan Dance?”
“Oh sure. Since we’re closing, I'm looking into finding another hobby. That line dance looks fun.”
I nodded in approval, we talked for a while more, and then I bid them adieu.
I’m going to miss them. I have to go by there more often.
You know what to do; drink ‘em if you got ‘em!
